Looking back to my childhood days, sports was my escape from the hearing world and later, I was fortunate to be able to compete in various sports and won many trophies and medals during my time at a deaf school. After I left school, I concentrated on athletics and competed in sprint events abroad including Deaflympics and European Deaf Championships as well as local hearing leagues. Later years, I can be seen enjoying yoga, tennis, scenic cycling and hiking! I’ve done challenges for a variety of charities and am looking for the next one!
My mother was always on a diet and I became a part time personal trainer in my mid 20’s so that I can help people like my mother to stop dieting and start living and also to run the circuit training sessions for the deaf athletics team. Many years later, I moved back to the UK and restarted my career as a Personal Trainer and Secret2Fitness was born in 2010. I really enjoy the rehab side of personal training so went on to gain more qualifications such as GP referral instructor, stroke rehab, cardiac rehab, freestyle fitness yoga instructor, yoga alliance 200hr teacher training!
In addition to being a personal trainer, I worked part time for the local leisure centre as Exercise Referral Specialist (Cardiac); Bounceback Cardiac Rehab as BACPR approved Phase IV Instructor and Freestyle Fitness Yoga weekly classes for deaf people in Brighton . During the lockdowns, all this work was moved online and thus an increased opportunity for deaf people to join my HIIT, Cardiac rehab and Yoga classes from anywhere in the UK. Various deaf charities booked me to run health related workshops and I set up the virtual challenge of walking from Lands end to John O’Groat with the deaf community!
Since the lockdown, l was given an amazing opportunity to take over Bounceback Cardiac Rehab company and I’ve been busy developing and growing that business since. Also, with my deaf yoga clients’ encouragement, I started to run deaf yoga day retreats which have been fantastic and rewarding. This year I’m looking at ways to provide accessible healthy information to the deaf community and came up with Deaf Healthy Tips! Looking into the future, I am looking at various ideas of new and additional services – watch this space!
What can I say of wonderful Penny, she always has patience and explains clearly especially with BSL on when to breathe in or out. I always felt great and happy in the end and that’s all down to fabulous Penny!
Thank you so much

I absolutely love Penny’s online yoga classes in BSL. It is amazing to have a deaf yoga teacher teaching us all in BSL. Penny is an amazing teacher, Patient, kind and calming. I feel very lucky to be able to practise yoga with the class of a wonderful woman. Yoga is such an important part of my life. Keeping stress levels down, keeping up fitness and keeping stretched.
Is so important to all our mental health and wellbeing. Penny also brings people together deaf and hearing alike. I can’t recommend her classes enough. Thank you for all you do ❤️

A massive thank you to Penny for organising this amazing Bluebell Yoga Retreat – what an enjoyable and memorable day! I’m so glad I joined, what a beautiful group! I learned so much about core, strength and correct postures and also, interesting information about bluebells!
Plus I love attending her online yoga classes on Tuesdays – Penny always brings her smile, sense of humour and lots of warmth. She guides us through the poses giving modifications / options. She is the best 🙂

“I have been attending Penny’s Cardio Circuits (online) almost weekly for three years now. She made me think how important it is to find time to exercise and to incorporate weights in order to keep heart and muscles strong and healthy.
Penny is really lovely and approachable. As I am profoundly deaf, I find her classes easy to follow, always enjoyable and equally challenging. It has definitely improved my health physically and mentally so I am going to continue with Penny’s classes for as long as possible!”
